The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has temporarily closed its surgical ward due to a malfunctioning elevator. According to Professor J. E. Mensah of the Surgical Department, the defective lift has interrupted patient circulation within the surgical tower, severely limiting the hospital’s ability to perform procedures.
As a result, the hospital has chosen to postpone all elective surgeries until further notice, focusing solely on emergency situations to ensure crucial treatment is not jeopardized.
Emergency procedures will now be performed in the Ground Floor Surgical (Neuro), Accident Center, Pediatric, and Gynaecology theaters. Patients that require these procedures will be admitted to Wards G, N, A, and B.
The statement also stated that procurement processes for replacing the malfunctioning elevators are underway, with the hospital working hard to finish the repairs swiftly, minimize delays, and resume normal operations as soon as possible.
