The Korle Bu Chapter of the Federation of Allied Health Professionals has decided to suspend its ongoing strike at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The strike, which began on August 2, 2024, involved the withdrawal of outpatient services due to the hospital’s refusal to appoint an independent body to oversee their operations.

The group, consisting of 18 professional associations including the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, the Ghana Physiotherapy Association, and the Ghana Society of Radiographers, had been advocating for the establishment of a directorate to manage their affairs, arguing that their current management under the hospital’s Medical Directorate was inadequate.

The decision to halt the strike came after constructive engagement with Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye and other relevant stakeholders. In a statement dated August 5, 2024, the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professions acknowledged the Minister’s assurance to resolve the matter within seven days, which influenced their decision to show good faith and pause the strike. Additionally, they noted that the National Labour Commission (NLC) has intervened, inviting them to a meeting on August 6, 2024, to seek a resolution.

The Federation has urged its members to remain steadfast in their pursuit of fair and equitable representation in the Core Management of all implementing agencies, including the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals across the country.
