LeBron James scored 20 points to lead the United States to a 92-88 victory over Germany in their final warm-up match before the Olympic Games. The 39-year-old dominated in the final four minutes, scoring 11 of his game-high tally to help the USA overcome a tough challenge at a sold-out O2 Arena in London.
Germany held a 71-68 lead at the end of the third quarter, but James’s late-game heroics turned the tide. He hit a crucial three-pointer with one minute and 26 seconds left to put the USA ahead 90-86 and added two more points to secure the win.

Joel Embiid contributed 15 points, and Stephen Curry added 13 in a victory that kept the United States unbeaten in their five pre-Olympic exhibition games. “It was a good test for us,” James said. “I’m glad we were able to keep our composure and persevere.”
James, who will be a flagbearer for Team USA at the Olympic Games opening ceremony, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness. “I think we’re prepared. Now we have to perform,” Curry added.
The USA, aiming for a fifth consecutive men’s basketball gold medal at the Paris Olympics, will begin their campaign against Serbia on July 28, followed by games against South Sudan on July 31 and Puerto Rico on August 3.
Analysis: Flagbearer James Carried the Team Too
Despite winning both exhibition games in London, Team USA has areas for improvement. Germany’s defense forced the US into unnecessary turnovers, which the world champions capitalized on. This lack of focus will likely frustrate the coaching staff, even though there were some defensive improvements from their previous game against South Sudan.
However, having LeBron James on the team makes a significant difference. James not only led the team on the court but also set the tone with an opening dunk that energized the crowd. Down the stretch, he took over the game, scoring Team USA’s final 11 points and finishing with 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
James’s performance, especially in clutch moments, demonstrated his enduring value. His ability to power past defenders and hit critical shots electrified the British crowd, showcasing why he remains one of the greatest players in the sport.
At 39, James continues to excel, providing leadership and skill that will be crucial for Team USA’s pursuit of gold in Paris.
