Liverpool have rejected a £15m offer from Southampton for 21-year-old forward Fabio Carvalho. Southampton’s long-standing interest in Carvalho is evident, but their bid is significantly below Liverpool’s valuation for a permanent transfer.

Carvalho has impressed during Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the United States, scoring in victories against Arsenal and Manchester United.

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot sees potential in using Carvalho in his 4-2-3-1 formation, unless a substantial offer persuades Liverpool to sell. Slot has been evaluating his young players due to the late arrival of several squad members, and Carvalho, alongside defender Sepp van den Berg, has notably stood out.

However, Carvalho might face limited first-team opportunities once key forwards like Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo return from international duties at the Copa America and Euro 2024.

Several other clubs have shown interest in Carvalho, who spent the previous season on loan at RB Leipzig and Hull City. He scored nine goals in 20 games for Hull City, and while another loan move is a possibility, it would be considered a last resort.
