Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has voiced his dissatisfaction over not securing the Rap Performance award at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

He shared with DJ Slim and Doreen Avio on Dabreak Hitz that his frustration comes from the hard work and pressure involved in producing the track ‘5th August 8’.

“Yeah, I was disappointed this year because last year’s ‘5th August’ brought me a lot of stress and required a great deal of effort. Slim, you know how challenging it is to film a 10-minute hip-hop video and maintain high quality,” he said.

Lyrical Joe also stated that he has consistently supported the Rap Performance of the Year category.

“Whenever I’m nominated, I always campaign for it, and my fans are just as passionate—they won’t let anyone rest online. They want us to deliver the best rap performance and more,” he explained.

Although disappointed, Lyrical Joe decided against voicing his complaints publicly, stating that there’s no graceful way to do so without it appearing as if he dislikes the other artists who won.

“There’s never a proper way to complain, so it’s better to just let it go,” he remarked.
