President Akufo-Addo has designated Madam Julie Essiam as the new Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, succeeding Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah. Madam Julie Essiam previously served as the Commissioner in charge of the Support Services Division of the GRA.
Her appointment follows shortly after President Akufo-Addo dissolved the Board of the GRA, chaired by Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi. While no specific reasons were provided for the dissolution of the board, there have been reports of recent disagreements.

This decision by the President comes in the wake of criticism from Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who accused the GRA of imposing undue pressure on businesses for tax collections due to unrealistic targets.
The dissolved GRA Board was led by Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi as chairman, with members including Mr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Mad. Adelaide Ahwireng, Prof. Peter Ohene Kyei, Mr. Kwabena Boaten, Mrs. Dela Obeng-Sakyi, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei.
Before assuming her current role, Madam Julie Essiam served as the Group Executive at the Ecobank Group, overseeing operations spanning 40 countries across North America, Europe, Africa, and other regions.
