Former President John Dramani Mahama has donated GH¢50,000 to the Buzstopboys, a group dedicated to promoting a clean environment in Ghana. This generous contribution is intended to support the group in acquiring essential tools and equipment for their ongoing Clean Ghana campaign.

Mr. Mahama emphasized the significance of voluntarism in maintaining urban cleanliness and highlighted the vital role grassroots initiatives like the Buzstopboys play in addressing urban waste management challenges. He pointed out that urban areas face unique difficulties due to high populations and the lack of communal hygiene standards often found in rural settings.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Mr. Mahama reminisced about the traditional practice of starting the day with cleaning chores, a routine he observed has significantly diminished over time. He lamented the rise in urban anonymity and its negative impact on civic responsibility towards cleanliness.

“When I saw you guys, young people, filling in that gap, I thought that you needed to be encouraged,” Mahama stated, expressing his admiration for the group’s dedication and initiative.

By supporting the Buzstopboys, Mahama hopes to inspire other young people and community groups to take an active role in improving their environments. The Buzstopboys, known for their dynamic and impactful campaigns, have been at the forefront of promoting environmental awareness and cleanliness across urban centers in Ghana. With this financial boost, they are well-positioned to expand their efforts and reach even more communities, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and volunteerism.
