The leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has called off the nurses’ strike at Manhyia District Hospital and has indefinitely postponed the planned strike escalation road map.
According to a statement issued by the GRNMA, the strike action at the Manhyia District Hospital has been suspended to allow the National Service Secretariat’s committee to investigate the actions of the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), whose verbal abuse of a nurse sparked the strike, and to ensure that patients and clients are not harmed.
The nurses went on indefinite strike Friday morning, demanding that the NSS supervisor, Alex Opoku-Mensah, be fired for verbally abusing a nurse at the hospital.
