Nana Kwame Bediako, leader of the New Force Movement, has decided to run in the December presidential elections as an independent candidate. This move comes after frustrating delays in registering his movement as an official political party, delays he blames on the Electoral Commission (EC).

Bediako explained that the New Force Movement submitted all the required paperwork to the EC on September 12, 2023, intending to establish the party to improve the country’s governance. By the EC’s rules, they should have heard back within seven days. However, after numerous follow-ups and a long seven-month wait, they finally received a provisional certificate in June 2024.

But getting this certificate was just the beginning. The party still needed to be gazetted and vetted by the EC to get an official license. After holding onto the provisional certificate for eight months, Bediako realized they couldn’t afford any more delays. He decided to run as an independent candidate to ensure they have enough time to campaign and share their message effectively.

Nana Kwame Bediako assured his supporters that the New Force Movement would continue working to become an official political party after the elections. He remains confident that running as an independent candidate won’t hurt his chances of winning the presidency.
