The Management of the National Service Scheme has successfully obtained government approval for an increase in the monthly allowances for National Service Personnel.
Starting from January 2023, the allowances will be raised from GHc 559.04 to GHc 715.57.
This adjustment is expected to benefit all National Service Personnel across the country, providing them with a higher monthly stipend during their service period.
The approval for the increase in monthly allowances for National Service Personnel, which was granted in a letter dated 18th July 2023 and signed by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare (MP), came about as a result of extensive discussions and consultations between the National Service Scheme, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Ministry of Finance.
These series of engagements were aimed at finding a feasible and fair solution to enhance the allowances provided to National Service Personnel.Â

The approval for the upward adjustment in monthly allowances for National Service Personnel will result in arrears for all those who have been actively serving since January 2023. This means that National Service Personnel who have been receiving the previous allowance of GHc559.04 per month will now be entitled to the difference between the old allowance and the new allowance of GHc715.57 per month.
The arrears will cover the period from January 2023 to the date of the approval, and the National Service Personnel will be paid accordingly.Â

This move by the government aims to ensure that all National Service Personnel receive fair compensation for their service and to address their financial needs during their service period.
