New Force Spokesperson Shalimar Abbiussi Granted GHc20k Bail

New Force spokesperson, Shalimar Abbiussi, has been granted bail in the tune of GHc20,000 by the Kaneshie District Court.

This follows her detention by the police over claims that she breached Ghana’s immigration laws.

According to reports, she obtained a student permit by false declaration.

Shalimar, a 30-year-old Belgian has appeared in a series of videos of the New Force, advocating on their behalf.

In one of the videos, she underscored the hardships experienced by Ghanaians under the current administration led by President Akufo-Addo, stressing on recent demonstrations to buttress her point.

In another video sighted  by Ted News Ghana, Shalimar was also voicing concerns over billboards belonging to the New Force that have been vandalised. 

In the most recent development, on Monday, December 11, 2023, Shalimar was charged with acquiring a student pass by false declaration and was given bail with two sureties to be justified.

Background

It is alleged that Shalimar Abbiusi violated “Obtaining a Student Permit by False Declaration,” especially section 52 (1) (i) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573).

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) filed a lawsuit against her on December 6, 2023.

She was charged by GIS with making a fraudulent enrollment declaration at Ghana Christian University College in the Greater Accra Region on or before September 23, 2023, with the goal of dodging legal obligations.

In addition, the charge states that Abbiusi intentionally provided false information, which enabled the successful purchase of a student permit bearing the number 0088754.

The Immigration Headquarters’ Head of the National Enforcement Section invited her to address questions regarding her immigration status in Ghana, which led to her detention.
