The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has notified ride-hailing vehicle owners of the introduction of a new tax policy known as the Vehicle Income Tax (VIT), which will take effect on January 1, 2024.

The GRA established in Section 22 of Regulations 2016, LI 2244 that “any commercial vehicle owner who earns income from the operation of a commercial vehicle shall pay income tax quarterly.”

The Authority has instructed ride-hailing businesses operating in Ghana, including as Uber, Yango, and Bolt, to alter their digital systems to accommodate the new tax obligations.

Obtaining a softcopy of the VIT sticker, checking the sticker’s authenticity with the GRA, and presenting a quarterly list of all vehicles on their platforms to the GRA are all guidelines for compliance.
