NPP Upper West Regional Chairman Passes Away at Age 76

On Friday, June 7, 2024, at his Adjringano, Accra, residence, Dr. Saanbaye Basilide Kangbere, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Upper West Regional Chairman, passed away.

The NPP’s Upper West Regional Secretary, Tanko Dauda Daniel, confirmed the tragic news to ChannelOne News, but she also pointed out that the party has not yet received a formal statement from Dr. Kangbere’s family.

Renal health problems were Dr. Kangbere’s long-term battle till his death at the age of 76. Mr. Adul-Rahman Aziz, the NPP’s first vice chairman in the Upper West Region, is anticipated to succeed him as regional chairman.

Dr. Kangbere was just defeated by Alhaji Mahama Toyina, his major opponent, to win the NPP’s Upper West Regional Chairmanship again in 2022.

Contrary to early fears about Dr. Kangbere’s certain defeat, Mr. Toyina received 112 votes while Dr. Kangbere received 130 out of the 242 legitimate ballots cast.
