Opoku Prempeh Resigns as Energy Minister

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has resigned from his position as Energy Minister. This announcement follows his selection as the running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s resignation, effective from July 18, 2024, to allow him to focus on his new role.

In a statement by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, President Akufo-Addo expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his dedicated service, highlighting his significant contributions as both Minister for Education and Minister for Energy.

To ensure a smooth transition, President Akufo-Addo has assigned the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Abu Jinapor, MP for Damongo, to exercise Cabinet oversight responsibility over the Ministry of Energy. Additionally, the Minister-of-State-designate at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapa, will handle the day-to-day administration of the Ministry.

The President has instructed both officials to work closely with Dr. Opoku Prempeh during this transition period.
