The Passport Office has reported a decline in passport applications by Ghanaians following a price increase implemented on April 1, 2024. Despite opposition from applicants, agents, and stakeholders, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration clarified that the price hike complies with the 2023 fees regulations, L.I.2481.

In an interview with Channel One News, Paul Cudjoe, Director of the Passport Office Headquarters, acknowledged the concern over low patronage but emphasized that fulfilling their mandate remains a priority.
“Naturally, there will be a slowdown because for a long time, we had not increased the passport price and we needed to bridge the gap. It got to a point that if we had not increased the price, we couldn’t even print passports, that’s why the new fees were introduced.”
Cudjoe noted that while the concern is shared across various regions, it is not seen as a major issue as long as the Passport Office continues to deliver its services effectively.
