Stating the meaning of this song, Abobi, Patoranking somberly laments in the first of the lyrics, “Rumuokoro don catch fire.” Abobi, which is Port Harcourt street slang for “friend,” throws light on the effects of police abuse on both himself and the community. As a point of contact to the ongoing social unrest in the country that has claimed innocent lives, he sings it back to Lagos with “Ikorodu don catch fire.” Because Abobi might be any of us, the song is extremely intimate.

The second track from his upcoming album, Abobi, produced by Kel P and penned by Patoranking, is an ode to the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt while also having an impact on the entire nation. While its effects will be felt by many for many decades to come, it acts as an open range pleading for attention. Listen, savor, and spread.
