Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has highlighted the impact of his role as deputy to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, emphasizing his initiation of several beneficial policies for Ghanaians.
Speaking at an engagement with the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he acknowledged his position as Vice President, stating, “Remember I have never been President and I don’t have that authority but I have been Vice President and if you look at my track record, people say I’m the best Vice President in history.”
Dr. Bawumia also expressed dissatisfaction with the country’s current tax structure, advocating for a change to make Ghana more competitive internationally, citing Estonia as an example.

He announced plans for a tax amnesty in 2025, aiming to implement a flat tax system similar to Estonia’s. Additionally, he proposed the introduction of faceless audits, leveraging digital frameworks to conduct audits without physical presence.
Furthermore, the Vice President pledged to transition Ghana from a social intervention economy to one led by the private sector. He emphasized the importance of addressing high taxes, the exchange rate regime, and creating a favorable environment for private sector growth to enhance Ghana’s competitiveness within the ECOWAS sub-region.
