Popular Ghanaian Choral Composer, Osei Boateng, dies at 50

Akuamoah Osei Boateng, a celebrated composer and singer from the Seventh-Day Adventist community, has passed away after a brief illness.

Known for his iconic hits like ‘Yesu Ka Woho’ and ‘Ɔkwantufo’, ‘Gyatabruwa’, Boateng had a musical journey spanning over 50 years. His influence extended beyond his music, as he also mentored and trained many talents within and outside the SDA Church.

Boateng’s death occurred at the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Saturday, April 6, 2024. He had been receiving treatment there for about a week before his passing.

Mark Kwabena Adu Agyei, Boateng’s brother and head of the Aduana family of Oguaa, confirmed the news of his demise to Myjoyonline.com. His passing has left a profound impact on the SDA Church, his fans, and his immediate family.

Originally born into a Muslim family to Madam Adwoa Oforiwaa and Opanin Akwasi Kwayie of Senkyi and Oguaa, respectively, near Effiduase in the Ashanti region, Boateng converted to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in his youth. He effectively juggled his career as a trained teacher with his musical passion during his formative years.
