President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to launch the highly anticipated One Student, One Laptop initiative for Senior High School (SHS) students on March 25. This initiative, aligned with the government’s focus on enhancing e-learning and digitalization, aims to support Ghanaian students in preparing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as the digital age.
The Ministry of Education has stated that the One Student, One Laptop initiative will provide Teaching and Learning Management Systems, Digital Learning Content, and educational devices to all SHS and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) schools across the country.
By equipping students with laptops, the government aims to enhance the quality of education at the secondary level and promote computer literacy and technological know-how among Ghanaian youth.

The decision to provide laptops to SHS students was initially announced by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia last year. This initiative reinforces the government’s commitment to supporting secondary education, as it has already made education at that level free since 2017.
The laptops provided under the One Student, One Laptop initiative come preloaded with various programs, including textbooks, enabling students to access educational materials offline, without the need for an internet connection. This eliminates the need for students to carry physical textbooks and facilitates a more interactive and digital learning experience.
By embracing digital technology and providing laptops to students, the government of Ghana aims to bridge the digital divide, empower students with essential digital skills, and prepare them for the evolving demands of the modern world. The One Student, One Laptop initiative represents a significant step toward advancing education and ensuring equal opportunities for Ghanaian students in the digital era.
