President-elect John Dramani Mahama has outlined plans to inaugurate a committee tasked with implementing his administration’s 120-day social contract, emphasizing swift reforms and policy measures aimed at revitalizing governance and the economy during the initial phase of his presidency.
Key components of this social contract include:
- Nomination of Cabinet Ministers: Ensuring all cabinet members are nominated within the first 14 days of his tenure.
- Lean Government: Establishing a streamlined and efficient government structure by day 90.
- Code of Conduct: Introducing a comprehensive code of conduct and performance standards for all government officials.
- National Economic Dialogue: Launching discussions focused on fiscal consolidation and economic revitalization.
As part of his reforms, Mahama plans to abolish specific levies, including the E-Levy, COVID-19 levy, 10% betting levy, and emissions levy, to provide economic relief to Ghanaians.
Addressing the Apostolic Fathers during a courtesy call, Mahama underscored the feasibility of the objectives:
“We have carefully selected the things that we thought were achievable in 120 days. So we are going to work diligently to ensure that at the end of the 120 days, we can check each of them off.”
He further highlighted a commitment to enhancing transparency and accountability through an initiative titled Operation Recover All Loot, aimed at safeguarding public resources:
“We want to raise accountability to another level. It’s in our constitution that we should uphold the principles of probity and accountability, so it’s a constitutional obligation for us to do so.”
This proactive agenda reflects Mahama’s emphasis on swift governance reforms and economic recovery as priorities for his administration.
