President Tinubu has proposed a 50% reduction in commercial bus prices on inter-state routes during the Yuletide season.
Mr Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals, announced the development on Wednesday, noting that all rail routes will be free from Thursday, December 21st, 2023 to Thursday, January 4th, 2024.
He also stated that air travel was exempt because it was reserved for the wealthy, emphasizing that the effort was a presidential intervention in public transit aimed at the masses.
The minister explained that the gift was made in the spirit of Christmas and the end-of-year celebrations.

“In another demonstration of his love for Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu has approved that the Federal Government intervene to bring down the cost of public transportation to allow our compatriots who want to travel to visit their loved ones and hometowns to do so without stress and the extra burden imposed by the high cost of transport around this period,” Alake said.
“The President is well aware of the recent increase in the cost of interstate travel, as well as air travel.” Our people have always enjoyed traveling between Christmas and the end of the year to spend time with their families and friends.
“We also know that globally, intra-country travels and movement of people, goods and services always peak around Christmas and end of the year because of the socio-gravitational pull of the period which transporters always cash on to increase fares astronomically.”
