The prosecution in the Tema-Mpakadan train accident case informed the court that fixing the train would cost more than $2 million.
According to the prosecution, the train manufacturers assessed the damage at $2,138,466.86.
Four more people were prosecuted and remanded at the High Court in Accra for their involvement in the illegal damage caused by the train disaster at Tema-Mpakadan.

Kokuo Koudjo, a gas welder, Patrick Kwaku Sosu, Alaza Prosper, and Fiadugbe Emmanuel, a laborer, were all charged with abetting the tragedy.
According to the prosecution, on the same day, the Ghana Railways Company’s management, the complainant, and 28 engineers from Ghana and Poland tested the new DMU 001 train from Tema to Mpakadan.
She stated that the test run had been announced in advance, and when the train arrived in the Abotia region, it collided with a Hyundai Gold truck that was stranded on the railway rails.
“The train was sent to Tema for examination, while the scrap of the vehicle, which was damaged beyond repairs was taken to the Juapong police station for further action,” she said.
Convict
She informed the Court that on April 19, 2024, the driver, Dzidotor Abel, was arrested and taken before the Circuit Court in Juapong, presided over by His Honour Proper Deu-love Gomashie. Abel pleaded guilty to three of the four charges.
He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to six months in prison.
