Sadio Mane, the Senegalese forward, has taken over as the new owner of the French Championnat National 2 club, Bourges Foot 18. The Al-Nassr star finalized the acquisition of the club on Tuesday morning and is now officially the majority stakeholder of the French team.
Sadio Mane joins the growing list of footballers who have ventured into club ownership, following in the footsteps of N’Golo Kante, who invested in the Belgian third-tier side Royal Excelsior Virton.
During a press conference in France, Mane participated via a video message, expressing his enthusiasm for being a part of the club’s ownership, as documented on social media.
The 31-year-old Sadio Mane has made various investments in his home country of Senegal, and his acquisition of the French club is viewed as a means to assist young players from Senegal in making their way to top-level football.
Sadio Mane began his professional career in France, initially with Ligue 1 side FC Metz. He went on to play for clubs like Red Bull Salzburg, Southampton, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich. In the summer transfer window, he made a move to Al-Nassr from the German giants.
The 31-year-old scored his first goal in the competition as the Saudi Pro League side narrowly defeated their opponents 4-3, allowing them to continue their flawless record in Group E.
Sports Brief also noted that Mane made his mark on the list of goal scorers in the Asian Champions League by scoring his first goal in Al-Nassr’s win against Al-Duhail. In the second half, the Senegalese forward extended his team’s lead by two goals, and a thrilling finish resulted in a 4-3 victory for the Saudi Pro League giants. Cristiano Ronaldo contributed with a double, in addition to Anderson Talisca’s strike, although the visitors provided a late scare in the exciting match.
