President Akufo-Addo has called attention to a historic accomplishment that could occur if his Vice President, Mahamadu Bawumia, wins the 2024 presidential election.
Akufo-Addo brought up the fact that Ghana will have its first Zongo First Lady under a Bawumia presidency, alluding to the several Muslim-dominated inner-city neighborhoods in the nation.
“If, by the grace of God, Mahamadu Bawumia wins the presidency in December 2024, we will have a Zongo First Lady in Ghana,” Akufo-Addo said in a speech in the Accra suburb of Nima.

During a speech at the coronation of Mohammed Saini Farl, better known as Nii Futa, as the next paramount chief for Nima, Akufo-Addo not only acknowledged the historic significance of Samira Bawumia’s probable elevation to the position of First Lady, but he also talked about his personal connection with Nima.
The President, who resides in a private home in the Nima neighborhood, highlighted his connections to the area and related stories of how he spent some of his best childhood days in the predominantly Muslim neighborhood.
He discussed the significance of the day, which fell on December 17, the day his mother was born, and which the new paramount chief had declared to be Nima Day.
“Nii Futa has chosen this day to be henceforth known as Nima Day, it is a very important day in my life because it is the birthday of my mother, the 17th of December, and she was a big maghajia of Nima as you know.
“I grew up here, I came here when I was 12 years old, our father moved us here. I don’t think there is any part of this area that I don’t know, I know this area like the back of my hand. I enjoyed some of the happiest days of my youth right here in Nima.
“So it is important that I be here on such a day because I am one of you, because I, too, I am a Nima boy,” he stated to applause from the gathering,” Akufo-Addo shared.
In the next elections, Bawumia, who was chosen on November 4th, 2024, to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will go up against former President John Dramani Mahama.
Making his fourth consecutive run for the president, Mahama lost his second and third contests to Akufo-Addo but prevailed in his first.
