Sarah Adwoa Safo, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, has addressed why she did not aggressively campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the district during the recent elections.

Addressing journalists on Monday, December 16, after Parliament returned from a long recess, Adwoa Safo stated that her absence was intentional and conveyed to the party, as she chose to focus on the NPP’s national campaign.

In reaction to criticism, she stated, “I believe those are [people] just criticizing for the sake of criticizing.” “From the moment I lost that seat in my primary, I made it clear that I will be joining the national campaign.”

Her remarks come after the NPP lost the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, in the recently held elections.

The leaving legislator highlighted that she had done her part to pave the way for the NPP’s nominee to win, even though the tactic did not work.”I did all in my power to allow the NPP candidate room to potentially win the just-ended poll,” according to her.

Safo also acknowledged the importance of her relationship with her father’s Kristo Asafo Church in the party’s prior electoral victories in the constituency.”My father and the church are really important to me. I believe that as a party, we must consider it in the constituency—what role it plays, what indications it provides for us moving ahead.

Faced with criticism for her apparent absence and lack of responsibilities, she reaffirmed her loyalty to the NPP and urged the party to thoroughly evaluate and rectify the problems that contributed to their loss in Dome Kwabenya.
