In an unexpected turn of events, Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo lost her parliamentary seat to Mike Oquaye Jnr in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries.

Adwoa Safo, who has represented the Dome-Kwabenya seat since 2012, faced a strong challenge from Mike Oquaye Jnr, the son of Professor Mike Oquaye, the previous Speaker of Parliament.

Mike Oquaye Jnr won the primary on Saturday, January 27, with 1,194 votes, defeating Adwoa Safo to become the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya.

Adwoa Safo, a lawyer and former Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament who is well-known in Ghanaian politics and a key member of the ruling NPP, received 328 votes.
