Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader and Effutu MP, has officially lodged a complaint with IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare regarding an alleged assault by a police officer, who attacked him at Parliament House’s entrance during Monday’s ‘Save the Judiciary’ demonstration.

“In his rebuke, the parliamentarian characterized the officer’s actions as ‘completely unacceptable and beneath professional standards.”

During the protest which he co-led with opposition colleagues, Mr. Afenyo-Markin alleged that Constable Forson intentionally struck his left chest area near the heart as he attempted to enter Parliament to deliver a petition.

In an official complaint, the MP stated: ‘Constable Forson, an identifiable fair-complexioned officer of considerable stature positioned behind police barriers, assaulted me without justification, forcefully striking my left chest area with an open palm. “‘The blow stunned me – I stood there gasping for air, completely shaken to my core,’ the MP recounted with visible emotion.”

The alleged assault occurred precisely as the Minority Leader was attempting to join his colleagues who had already been permitted entry, leaving him momentarily incapacitated by the force of the blow.

“‘That blow nearly took me down – I had to grab the Parliament wall just to stay on my feet,’ the MP revealed, still visibly shaken.”

“The parliamentarian reported that a national service member provided him water, while two Criminal Investigations Department officers helped him to a nearby washroom where he rested on a bench to recover.”
