The upcoming New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary primary in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency is set for an unexpected development as Sheela Oppong Sakyi, the Head of Strategic Planning and Implementation and Legal Advisor at the Office of the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, has announced her candidacy.
Expressing her desire to run as the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Dome Kwabenya constituency, Ms. Oppong Sakyi aims to foster unity within the NPP in the region. Her primary goal is to contribute to the party’s success in securing a third consecutive term in the 2019 General Elections, with the overarching objective of “breaking the eight.”
Currently serving as the Head of the Rebecca Foundation, Ms. Oppong Sakyi highlighted the significance of resolving internal disputes within the NPP in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency. She stressed the need for collaborative efforts to secure victory in the 2024 General Elections.

Ms. Oppong Sakyi faces competition from the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, and another candidate, Mike Ocquaye.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme, Ms. Oppong Sakyi explained that her decision to run for MP is driven by her desire to leverage her expertise in Law and Development to address the Constituency’s development challenges. Additionally, she aims to contribute to the NPP’s efforts not only to retain the parliamentary seat but also to secure success in the general elections.
“Aside from being a lawyer, I have extensive experience as a development expert. So I believe it is time for me to use all of my skills for Dome-Kwabenya’s and my party’s development plan, particularly at this critical stage when our party is committed to breaking the eight, which is unique in the Fourth Republic. It is important we put our best energies and resources together to break the eight,” she emphasized in Twi.
