Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, has advised Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to work with the Minority side or face legislative deadlock.
The Speaker expressed his displeasure with the Majority Leader’s failure to assure his members’ presence during the budget debate in 2024. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s performance was described as “limping” by Bagbin.
The Speaker blamed the Majority’s poor performance on a shift in loyalty within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s presidential primaries.
A notable shift in loyalty away from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was noted by Bagbin, particularly with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerging as the NPP’s flagbearer.

Bagbin noted that the apparent shift in devotion has caused NPP MPs to appear to disregard their parliamentary obligations, considering President Akufo-Addo as a president with limited influence.
To address this issue, the Speaker urged the Majority Leader to prioritize collaboration with the Minority, emphasizing that the legislative process would be jeopardized without such participation.
