This decision follows the untimely passing of Dr. John Kumah, Deputy Finance Minister and MP for Ejisu, on Thursday, March 7. In the official statement, it was stated, “The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has reassigned the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Hon. Stephen Amoah, as Deputy Minister for Finance.”

Prior to his reassignment, Hon. Stephen Amoah served as the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry. He now succeeds the late Hon. John Kumah in his new role at the Finance Ministry, effective immediately.

With the vacancy created by Stephen Amoah’s move to the Finance Ministry, President Akufo-Addo has nominated a replacement for the Trade Ministry. Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, Member of Parliament for Achiase, has been proposed as the Deputy Minister-designate for Trade and Industry. President Akufo-Addo has urged Parliament to expedite the vetting and approval process for Marfo, enabling him to assume his duties promptly.

In his message, President Akufo-Addo expressed hope that Parliament would swiftly approve his nominee, allowing Marfo to contribute to the government’s efforts in delivering its mandate for the second term in office. The President emphasized the importance of bipartisan cooperation in facilitating the smooth functioning of the government.
