In response to calls for a load shedding timetable amidst the three-week power outage announced by ECG and GRIDCo due to reduced gas supply from Nigeria, Ing. Kwadwo Obeng, Deputy Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has rejected the idea, citing uncertainties in accurately predicting power cuts.
Business owners, including barbers and tailors, expressed concerns over the lack of electricity, which severely impacts their operations and ability to plan. They emphasized the need for a timetable to manage their businesses effectively during the outage.

However, speaking at a public forum addressing the challenges in the power sector, Ing. Kwadwo Obeng argued against the feasibility of creating a reliable load shedding timetable under current circumstances. He highlighted several factors contributing to this uncertainty, including the fluctuating nature of faults, maintenance needs, and the unpredictability of the quantum of power that needs to be shed.
Obeng emphasized the complexities involved in determining the exact amount of load shedding required and the duration it will last. Without clarity on these factors, he suggested that creating a timetable could lead to inaccuracies and potential frustrations among consumers expecting a structured schedule.
Instead, he underscored the importance of ongoing collaboration with local manufacturers and companies to manage the situation as best as possible. This approach aims to mitigate the impact of the power outage on businesses and consumers by optimizing available resources and providing updates as the situation evolves.
In conclusion, while acknowledging the challenges faced by businesses and individuals during the outage, Ing. Kwadwo Obeng stressed the need for flexibility in managing power disruptions and cautioned against relying on a load shedding timetable that may not accurately reflect the dynamic nature of power supply issues.
