Togo’s Ministry of Transport has suspended the ride-hailing app Yango, which is owned by Russia’s tech giant Yandex, due to security concerns—just months after it commenced operations in the country.
In a statement released on Thursday, the ministry indicated that Yango had started operating in June without proper authorization, violating established national procedures. The ministry cited concerns regarding passenger safety, order, and adherence to legal protocols as reasons for the suspension.
“The activities of the operator YANGO are therefore suspended across the entire national territory,” the statement read.

In response, Yango clarified that the ride-hailing service operates independently from Yandex and is headquartered in Dubai. The company mentioned that discussions with the Togolese government are ongoing and expressed confidence that a resolution would be found to allow them to resume operations in the country.
