Stephen Nii Quaye, a police officer, died in a sad incident at the Gomoa Mpota Checkpoint on the Kasoa-Winneba route in the Central Region. The officer, stationed at the Winneba Divisional Police Command, was hit by a Kia pickup around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21.
According to sources, the police had stopped a car at the checkpoint when a Kia pickup approached from behind and collided with Officer Quaye. The driver of the Kia vehicle, who was allegedly sleeping at the wheel, initially hit two automobiles before crashing with the metal barrier at the police checkpoint and driving over the officer.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicles involved in the accident were a Kia truck with registration number GR-6419-N, a trailer with registration number GE-5468-22, and a petrol tanker with registration number GY-2186-13.
In an interview with Adom News, an eyewitness named Joseph Asamoah reported that the Kia truck driver acknowledged to being asleep at the time of the incident. Three people who were on board the Kia truck were injured and are currently being treated at Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.
