Gideon Kojo Asomani Addo, 26, has been arrested for the murder and burial of his mother in an unfinished structure in Koforidua-Kyekyewere, near Nyamekrom in the Eastern Region.
Mercy Oforiwaa, a former Roads and Highway Authority employee, was reported missing on June 17, 2023. Despite the family’s efforts, which included reporting her disappearance to authorities and making multiple radio announcements, her location remained unclear.
The allegation of iron rod theft by a neighbor heightened worries, leading to the arrest of Gideon Kojo Asomani by Koforidua police. During police interrogation, he shockingly admitted to murdering his mother and buried her in an unfinished structure.

The police escorted the suspect to the crime scene on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, to verify the alleged burial spot. Traditional community leaders poured libation to cleanse the place. The police will then conduct an exhumation to aid the ongoing inquiry.
Speaking with the media, the deceased’s daughter has provided insight into the unfortunate events leading up to this upsetting incident. She claimed that her mother, who passed away, had dementia, so the family expected to find her within a few days. However, after six months, they lost faith and began to suspect foul play.
She claimed that their belief that her brother may have killed their mother was strengthened by his peculiar recent conduct.
