The Transport Operators Union and the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana have jointly announced a 30% increase in transport charges, starting on March 7, 2024. The decision to raise fares is attributed to the government’s failure to address their concerns, particularly regarding the impact of rising fuel prices on their operational costs.
In a joint press release, the two organizations expressed disappointment in the leadership for not taking proactive measures to adjust fares in line with the increasing costs of fuel. The continuous rise in fuel prices has significantly affected the livelihoods of drivers, causing financial strain and difficulties in running their businesses.

The announcement highlighted the importance of fare adjustments to ensure the financial viability of the transportation sector and maintain the quality of service provided to the public.
The failure of the government to address these concerns has led the regional executives to consider fare increments as a necessary step to sustain their businesses.
The organizations called on the government and relevant authorities to engage in constructive dialogue with their leaders to address the challenges faced by the transportation sector and to implement fare adjustments that reflect the current economic realities.
If these concerns are not addressed by March 6, 2024, the organizations warn that they will have no choice but to proceed with the fare increases.
