Starting Saturday, May 24, 2025, transport fares throughout Ghana will be reduced by 15% after fruitful discussions between the Ministry of Transport and transport operators.

The fare reduction is a result of recent positive macroeconomic changes, such as the continued strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar, leading to a notable decrease in fuel prices.

This move comes after the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association instructed its members to reduce the prices of automotive parts due to the improved exchange rate.

In an interview with Citi FM, Abass Imoro, Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), confirmed the fare cut, calling it a well-timed measure designed to reflect current market conditions and alleviate the financial burden on passengers.

Mr. Imoro stated, “We have reached an agreement to cut lorry fares by 15%, which will come into effect starting Saturday.”

Even though spare parts dealers have pledged to lower some prices, which has not yet happened, and lubricant prices, which have increased, remain unchanged, we have chosen to set the fare reduction at 15%,” he explained.

The reduction in fares is anticipated to provide relief to passengers across the country, responding to ongoing demands for price changes that reflect recent macroeconomic developments.
