The Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has announced a nationwide strike, set to commence on September 27, 2024. The strike comes in response to the government’s failure to honor commitments made under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and the refusal to implement revised allowances for senior members of public universities.
TUSAAG had previously reached an agreement with the government in July 2024, following a directive from the Ministry of Finance in May, but the association claims the government has since failed to fulfill its obligations.

In an official statement, TUSAAG expressed frustration over the government’s neglect of their concerns, stating that the failure to meet the agreed-upon terms represents a violation of their rights. The association highlighted that despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue through discussions, no progress has been made, leaving them with no option but to declare industrial action. The statement emphasized that the inaction is not only a breach of the CBA but also reflects a broader disregard for their members’ welfare.
TUSAAG also accused the government of discriminatory practices, favoring other unions in public universities when it comes to allowances while neglecting the needs of TUSAAG members. This, according to the association, further compounds the frustration and sense of inequality felt by senior administrators in technical universities across the country.
The association’s demands include the immediate payment of various agreed-upon allowances, such as vehicle maintenance, off-campus, fuel, utility, and sanitation/security allowances. TUSAAG has vowed to withdraw all services at technical universities nationwide until their demands are met and has called on the government to formally acknowledge their grievances and commit to fully implementing the terms of the CBA.
