The Senior Staff Association of Universities in Ghana has declared that it is waiting on the government’s cooperation to address specific recommendations before contemplating calling off its members’ strike.
The strike, which has lasted more than a week, is a joint action with the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWUG) and is motivated by the government’s refusal to address pension concerns.
Following a discussion between the parties on February 1, the association’s National Chairman, Isaac Donkoh, stated that the strike will continue until the government met their requests.
“The Association or the unions have made some proposals to the government. The government has taken it in good faith, and they will get back to us in a few days… Until then, the strike is still on. So if they are able to work it out fast, it is better for all of us,” he stated.
