Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has firmly expressed his opposition to the activities of the LGBTQI community, stating that his faith and cultural values do not support or tolerate such practices.
Speaking to the congregation during the Eidul-Fitr prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his unwavering stance against LGBTQ activities, emphasizing that they would not be accepted under his leadership.
“As a devout Muslim, my faith does not endorse or condone homosexuality. Our cultural and societal norms as Ghanaians also disapprove of this practice,” Dr. Bawumia emphasized.

He further aligned his views with the teachings of Islam, stating that the Holy Quran explicitly condemns LGBTQ acts, including same-sex marriages. Dr. Bawumia underscored that his religious beliefs firmly oppose homosexuality without any ambiguity.
“I cannot support a practice that is forbidden by my religion and the major religious traditions in Ghana, including Christianity and Islam,” Dr. Bawumia asserted. “As President, I will continue to oppose LGBTQ activities, in line with the values upheld by our religious and cultural heritage.”
Dr. Bawumia’s remarks come in response to calls from various quarters, particularly within Muslim communities, urging him to clarify his stance on the issue of LGBTQ rights in Ghana.
