Vincent Assafuah, a Member of Parliament for the Old Tafo seat, has defended the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy in Ghana, stating that it should not be revised. He argued that it is better for students to study under trees than to remain uneducated. This statement comes in response to calls for a reconsideration of the Free SHS policy.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has opposed such proposals, asserting that the policy does not require reassessment.

In an interview, Mr. Assafuah acknowledged challenges in the education system but expressed the belief that revising the policy is not the solution. He emphasized that despite the difficulties, students are receiving an education, which he considers the most crucial aspect.
Mr. Assafuah stressed the importance of providing education for future generations and urged collaboration among Ghanaians to address challenges rather than calling for a review of the Free SHS policy. He stated, “For me, it is preferable for a young kid to sit on the floor without a desk to learn than to be uneducated.
It is preferable for a young person to attend school without slippers and be educated than to not be educated at all.”
