The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it will release all withheld results of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) by February 28, 2025.
This decision follows widespread concerns over the council’s initial move to withhold the results of over 1,000 candidates due to suspected examination malpractices.
Speaking at a press briefing, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, assured stakeholders that the matter is being addressed in accordance with the council’s established procedures.
“We wish to bring to the notice of parents, guardians, and indeed all stakeholders that the council works within a body of rules. The council does not make decisions arbitrarily. There are relevant committees that look into the merits of the matters raised and advise accordingly,” Kapi stated.
He further revealed that a stay of execution concerning a court case on the issue is set for hearing on February 20, which could influence the final resolution process.
WAEC has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving all cases of suspected malpractice before the end of February, ensuring that affected candidates receive their results without further delay.
“The council wishes to assure its stakeholders that all the cases of malpractices being investigated will be finalised and all results released by 28th February 2025,” Kapi emphasized.
This development comes as a relief to affected candidates, parents, and schools, as many students rely on their results for tertiary education admissions and other academic pursuits.
