Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has dismissed claims that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is arrogant and disrespectful.

During a gathering in Kumasi on July 9, 2024, where NAPO was introduced to him and the Asanteman chiefs, the Asantehene shared his surprise at these allegations. He explained that he had a hand in raising NAPO, alongside NAPO’s father, whom he considers a brother.

“I’ve known Matthew since he was young, and I can’t understand why people would label him as arrogant and disrespectful,” Otumfuo said. “I helped raise him, and I never saw any of those traits.”

The Asantehene assured NAPO of his support but advised him to prove the critics wrong.

“In all humility, work with Bawumia and deliver for me. Be obedient to his orders. There have been rumors following your announcement as Bawumia’s choice that you are arrogant and disrespectful, but then I wondered, because while I trained you, I saw nothing of that sort, so then why would people say that?”

He added, “I’ll stand by you and say this isn’t who you are, but make sure to prove them wrong. Serve with all your heart, and we will pray for you. By God’s grace, everything will work out for us.”

NAPO was introduced to the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace before his official unveiling as the NPP’s vice-presidential candidate at the Kumasi Jubilee Park.
