Youth Impact Parliament of YIM Inaugurates its Third Parliament

On Saturday, August 12th, 2023, the Third Parliament of the Youth Impact Parliament reconvened at the HTU SRC JCR in Ho.

The session included various activities such as the election of a Speaker of Parliament and two deputies, administration of oaths to Members of Parliament, and addresses from Special Guests of Honour.

The event was overseen by Mr. Cyril Kekeli Amevor, the Clerk to the Third Parliament. ‘Rt. Hon.’ Jones Amegashie-Viglo was nominated and subsequently elected as the Speaker of the Third Parliament. He was administered the oath of office by ‘Hon.’ Peter Nortsu-Kotoe. ‘Hon.’ Deborah Nana Aba Tawiah was elected as the First Deputy Speaker, and ‘Hon.’ Enock Kwame Sododzi was elected as the Second Deputy Speaker.

Mr. Simon Kwodjo Mesa Avorgah, President of Ho Technical University Alumni Association, was the Special Guest of Honour for the inauguration. He emphasized the importance of capacity building and integrity protection, recommending training sessions for Youth MPs to familiarize themselves with their duties and responsibilities within house committees.

The event included other speeches and reports, including the Progress Report of the Movement presented by the Executive Director of YIM, discussions about the purpose and functioning of the Youth Impact Parliament and the Youth Impact Foundation, and remarks from various guests and dignitaries.

The session concluded with the constitution of the Committee on Selection, closing remarks, a vote of thanks, and an adjournment of the Second Parliamentary Sitting.

Overall, the event marked the formal inauguration of the Third Parliament of the Youth Impact Parliament, bringing together young leaders to discuss important issues and contribute to their communities.
