Youth Impact Parliament Visits the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana

On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, the Speaker and Members of the Third Parliament of Youth Impact Parliament (YIP) Ghana of Youth Impact Movement (YIM), arrived at the premises of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana for an educational trip.

The First Session of the trip was held in the Speakers Conference Room at the Speakers Block. Hon. Kofi Attor, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the Republic and former MP for Ho Central, chaired the session. Other facilitators included Hon. Peter Nortsu Kotoe, MP for Akatsi North and Ranking Member of the Education Committee of Parliament; Hon. Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor, MP for South Dayi and Member of the Standing Orders Committee of Parliament; H.E. Amb. Jonathan, Special Advisor to the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the Republic; Supt. Rtd. Effia Tenge, Director of Public Engagement, Parliamentary Service of Ghana.

The session covered the history of Ghana’s Parliament, its nature, functions, and powers, the roles of parliamentary committees, and how the public can engage with Parliament. A question-and-answer session moderated by Mr. Mustapha Ahmed, a PRO at Parliament, followed the presentations. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. Jones Amegashie-Viglo, Speaker of the Third Parliament of Youth Impact Parliament GH of YIM. The session concluded with a photo session and refreshments for all participants.

During the Second Session, the Speaker and Members of YIP were granted access to the chambers of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana to observe proceedings from the Speaker’s Gallery. The proceedings of Wednesday, November 29, 2023, of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana commenced with Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana, presiding. Prayers were read, communications were read, and the Votes and Proceedings of the previous sitting were adopted.

Whiles presiding, Mr. Speaker excitedly acknowledged the presence of the Members of Youth Impact Parliament, naming the Speaker of Youth Impact Parliament (Jones Amegashie-Viglo) as their leader. He also recognized Hon. Benjamin Komla Kpodo, MP for Ho Central and a member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, since Youth Impact Parliament operates within his constituency. Mr. Speaker emphasized the importance of this Youth Group bearing the name “YOUTH IMPACT PARLIAMENT” and encouraged the Speaker and Members of Youth Impact Parliament to learn and better the practices of Parliament of Ghana at its sittings.

The Last Session ended with a brief interaction and photo session with Hon. Benjamin Komla Kpodo (MP for Ho Central), Hon. Kobby Woyome (MP for South Tongu), Hon. Jocelyn Tetteh (MP for North Dayi), and Hon. Angela Alorwu-Tay (MP for Afadjato South) with the Speaker and Members of Youth Impact Parliament Ghana of YIM. Thereafter, the Speaker and Members of Youth Impact Parliament departed.

Youth Impact Parliament extends a special acknowledgement to its Patrons, Members, Supporters, and Promoters, expressing gratitude for their contributions to the trip’s success.
