The controversy erupted during a discussion on Onua FM, where NPP National Communication Team member Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah launched severe accusations against Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and musician Fantana.
Gyewu-Appiah alleged that Minister Ablakwa diverted state funds intended to evacuate Ghanaians from South Africa and spent the stolen money on Fantana.Directing his anger at the alleged financial misconduct, Gyewu-Appiah stated on air,
"What pains me is that he has given all the money he took to Fantana. Do you know his girl is Fantana? He has taken all the stolen money to Fantana".
Escalating his claims, the NPP communicator asserted that Minister Ablakwa and his wife ought to be jailed over these actions, describing the minister as a "serious thief”.
In response to the widespread broadcast,Fantana rejected all allegations and accused Gyewu-Appiah of spreading malicious lies against her on a national media platform.
Refusing to ignore the damaging claims, the Ghanaian artist declared her intention to file a defamation lawsuit against Gyewu-Appiah. Expressing her anger over the radio comments, Fantana publicly warned,"
I'm going to sue you for lying on me!!!!! A bunch of old useless fOOls sitting on the radio spreading lies!God punish you, useless men!".
By taking steps toward legal action, Fantana aims to hold commentators accountable for defamatory statements aired to the public.
This emerging feud between musician Fantana and NPP communicator Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah highlights the delicate boundary between political commentary and legal defamation. With Fantana demanding full legal accountability over claims involving diverted state funds, the resolution of this conflict could establish an important standard for media broadcasts in Ghana.
