In a landmark move for the global game, FIFA has officially sanctioned a significant increase in financial support for nations heading to the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The Bureau of the FIFA Council approved the updated financial framework following a high-level meeting held in Zurich, Switzerland, on 15 October 2026.
Under this revised arrangement, each qualified national association will receive $2.5 million (£1.9 million) specifically earmarked to fund preparations ahead of the 2027 tournament in Brazil.
Beyond baseline preparation allowances, the overall financial model incorporates dedicated tournament prize money as well as distributions through the FIFA Club Benefits Programme.
Crucially, FIFA announced that women players will receive the exact same standard of tournament services as their male counterparts at the 2026 Men’s World Cup, narrowing the operational gap between both competitions.
The governing body also confirmed that any financial surplus produced by the tournament will be distributed among participating member associations, with a designated allocation reserved directly for the players themselves.
Member associations will not have to wait long for the full fiscal breakdown, as additional specifics regarding the distribution model are slated for final discussion at the upcoming FIFA Council gathering in December 2026.
This funding adjustment formed part of a wider slate of major global football decisions delivered by the Bureau.
The United States was officially named host of the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, scheduled to take place between 5 January and 30 January 2028.
In detailing its venue selection, FIFA noted that the United States was chosen due to its "experience in staging the organisation’s competitions, its established infrastructure and services, and strong interest among stakeholders in women’s football".
Spots in this maiden club showcase will be awarded based on sporting merit across confederation club tournaments over a four-year evaluation cycle spanning seasons that conclude between 2024 and 2027.
Further adjustments were made across both women’s and men’s competition calendars.
The final phase of the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup in Miami was shifted to 26–31 January, splitting the two semi-finals across separate matchdays to maximize international broadcast visibility.
On the men’s side, Qatar was designated as host for the closing three fixtures of the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup in December, including the Derby of the Americas, the Challenger Cup, and the 16 December final.
Meanwhile, the 2027 FIFA Under-20 World Cup was awarded as a co-hosting event to Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan from 17 September to 9 October 2027.

Closer to West Africa, the Bureau instituted an administrative change by naming a normalisation committee to oversee affairs at the Nigeria Football Federation through 31 May 2027 at the latest.
For African nations and their devoted fanbases, adequate preparation funding removes longstanding logistical headaches and empowers squads to make a serious impact at the 2027 finals.
