The Ghana Football Association (GFA) turns to Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren to handle the senior men’s national team on a temporary basis.
The decision to appoint Kim Lars Björkegren comes in the wake of former head coach Carlos Queiroz's departure, who left his role after Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats against Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening two AFCON 2027 qualifying fixtures.
To steer the national team through this challenging phase, a five-member committee assembled a temporary technical staff led by Björkegren.
He will not be working alone; the Swedish tactician is set to collaborate alongside Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko and current Black Stars assistant coach Godwin Attram.
This interim coaching panel is tasked with preparing the Black Stars for a crucial home-and-away double-header against Somalia, scheduled between November 11 and 14, 2026.
The immediate objective is securing positive results to revitalize Ghana's qualification chances, especially following the disappointment of missing out on the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

Beyond immediate match preparation, this temporary structure buys vital time for the GFA’s five-member search committee to thoroughly evaluate candidates before selecting a permanent head coach capable of rebuilding the national squad.
As November approaches, all eyes across Ghana will be on how quickly Björkegren, Tanko, and Attram can rebuild team confidence and secure maximum points against Somalia.
With national pride and AFCON qualification on the line, the interim technical team faces a major test to put the Black Stars back on track.
