Ghana’s Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has officially initiated a fresh defamation suit targeting Sammy Gyamfi, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
The dispute centers on alleged defamatory statements where the Minority Leader was described in damaging terms, bringing renewed public attention to legal accountability and reputation management in Ghana.
The court action stems from alleged defamatory remarks made by Gyamfi, during which Afenyo-Markin was publicly described as an "extortionist".
Seeking formal legal remedy to defend his character, the Minority Leader filed the new suit to challenge these statements through the judicial process.

This recent legal proceeding follows a prior technical setback in court. Just last week, the High Court made the decision to strike out Afenyo-Markin's initial defamation suit against the GoldBod CEO.
The court’s dismissal of the earlier case was decided on procedural grounds, specifically noting that the original writ was defective.
Having addressed the technical defect in the filing, Afenyo-Markin has now returned to the High Court with a fresh writ to pursue the legal matter.
The refiling of this suit highlights Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s resolve to address the "extortionist" allegations in court.
