Ghana’s path toward long-term financial resilience enters an important new phase as Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson leads the national delegation to the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group in Bangkok, Thailand.
Taking place from October 12 to 18, this high-level gathering marks a strategic transition from restoring fiscal balance to constructing a transformed, sustainable economic framework for the nation. As global financial leaders gather, Ghana is positioning itself to outline its roadmap for lasting development.
Ghana enters these critical discussions in Bangkok supported by positive evaluations from the Bretton Woods institutions regarding its progress in restoring economic stability following the 2022 financial crisis. Representing the first IMF and World Bank Annual Gathering held outside Washington, D.C. since Dr. Forson took office as Finance Minister in 2025, the summit offers a key opportunity to broaden international partnerships.
Throughout the week-long event, Dr. Forson is scheduled to hold extensive bilateral talks and multilateral sessions with IMF executives, senior World Bank representatives, fellow finance ministers, and strategic financial partners. These engagements serve as an essential prelude to the upcoming 2027 Budget, during which the government plans to officially unveil the "New Economy" the national policy blueprint for Ghana's next era of growth.
Highlighting this strategic pivot during his presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review, Dr. Forson underscored,
"Stabilization was never the destination. It was the price of entry".
By building on international momentum and recognized recovery milestones, the Ghanaian delegation aims to turn policy goals into actionable measures that ensure durable economic growth and prosperity across the country.
The 2026 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok represent a pivotal juncture for Ghana’s macroeconomy. Having established a solid foundation through recovery policies, the country now prepares for the rollout of the New Economy framework in the 2027 Budget.
