The Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, recently conducted a working visit to Nutrifoods Ghana Limited to assess its operations and labour standards. During the tour, the Minister praised the company for its significant contributions to national development, specifically highlighting its role in job creation and maintaining excellent industrial relations.
Nutrifoods, a joint venture between Olam and Sanyo, produces iconic Ghanaian brands such as Tasty Tom, NutriSnax, and Royal King Cracker. While touring the company’s facility in the Tema Industrial Area, the largest tomato-processing plant in West Africa. Dr. Pelpuo expressed his admiration for the company’s commitment to “homegrown” production. He noted that seeing products made entirely in Ghana by a local workforce strengthens the national economy.
The Minister specifically lauded Nutrifoods for its impeccable safety record, pointing to over 14 years of operation without a single “Lost Time Due to Accident” (LTA). He also commended the company for implementing a 24-hour shift system. He noted that this operational model aligns perfectly with the government’s 24-hour economy policy, which aims to maximize productivity and employment.
Dr. Pelpuo described the labour climate at the factory as “healthy” and “encouraging.” He observed that the management consistently complies with occupational health standards and national labour laws. He reaffirmed the government’s stance that the private sector remains a vital partner in tackling unemployment, promising continued support for robust private enterprises.
Mr. Jay Anjaria, the Managing Director of Nutrifoods Ghana, shared that the company currently employs nearly 2,000 people. He emphasized that the firm continues to invest in local technical capacity to meet international manufacturing standards. His claims are backed by the Top Employers Institute, which has recognized Nutrifoods as a “Top Employer” in both Ghana and Africa for five consecutive years.
